Health & Safety

UNISON believe that everyone has the right to work in a safe environment.  The Branch campaign locally for better workplace conditions and report on employers when they fail to comply with legislation.

The Branch should have a large network of Health & Safety Reps locally who, through workplace inspections, bring Health & Safety to the top of Employers agendas.  Unfortunately the Branch has virtually no Health and Safety Reps at present so we are very keen to recruit. The Branch also has a Health & Safety Officer, Andrew Knight, who will aid any new Reps through the jungle of legal issues with ease, by using his knowledge of Health & Safety Law.

Health & Safety Reps are elected annually by members in their workplace.  The Branch assists new recruits by putting them through TUC training courses.  These courses are during normal working hours and the Branch pays allowances for meals and travelling costs.
